Some of the fondest memories people have is around the holidays. The holiday films take us back to our childhood. There are generations of memories with the entertainment world.

Around the holidays when I was young my two brothers, my sister, and I loved watching the classic movie musicals Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. We would play and pretend we where the children in the films. It was so much fun singing all the songs in those movies as we played. One of the scenes in The Sound of Music the children are on steps learning the major music scale with the song “Do-Re-Mi”. This is the song my siblings and I role played and sang the most on our front steps at home many years ago. We always wished that we had a nanny like Mary in Mary Poppins or governess like Maria in The Sound of Music.

Both of these special ladies in these films are loving and have much fun with the children. Mary in Mary Poppins, starring Julie Andrews, is a kind-hearted caring person that has a magical umbrella. She is firm in her use of authority but gentle and loving as well. She is employed by Mr. Banks to care for the children, Jane and Michael. They have many adventures that are as magical as her umbrella.

Maria in The Sound of Music, also starring Julie Andrews, is a postulant at Nonnberg Abbey. She loves singing on the nearby mountainside and frequently arrives back to the abbey late. The Mother Abbess tells her she needs to spend time outside the abbey so she is able to decide her future to determine if she is ready for the monastic life. Mother Abbess sends her off to be governess to the seven children of widower Captain Georg von Trapp. Maria brings the music back into the Trapp home and the children learn to sing for the first time that famous song “Do-Re-Mi”. Maria and the Captain fall in love and get married. This is all based on a true story of the Trapp Family Singers.

These wonderful musicals are two of my childhood favorites and worth watching. You can get away and let your imagination fly with great classics, or laugh to tears watching a good comedy. Be on the edge of your seat with a great adventure or crying like a baby watching a romance unfold.

Let’s call this “Movie Memory Lane”. Classical movies really do bring back different memories in our life. Sharing special times with family and friends are those true entertainment moments we all enjoy.

Start creating your own “Memory Movie Lane”:)
