Pat Benatar Greatest Hits – Classic Rock Review and Trivia Question
Pat Benatar Greatest Hits – Classic Rock Review and Trivia Question
top songs
Pat Benatar’s greatest success is in America as a pop rock, MTV favorite hit maker. She has a long list of achievement awards to add to her highly impressive resume.
In 1982 she married her producer/guitarist, Neil Giraldo. He has recorded and performed with her right from the very beginning and continues to perform with her today. Pat Benatar has recorded many albums, some of which stray from her more well-known pop rock and showcase her jazz and classical talents. Even with the many albums she has recorded, she will more than likely always be known for her singles.
Pat Benatar’s songs found themselves on permanent radio and video rotation. She recently added to her talents in 2010 by writing and releasing an autobiography. My trivia question to you is: Can you name this book? I will give the answer after I name my choices of Pat Benatar’s greatest hits.
Heartbreaker is off of her 1979 album, In The Heat Of The Night. This song is one of her faster paced, hard rocking numbers that she sings with attitude. It was one of her first singles and gave us a great introduction to what was ahead. This song was recorded slightly before music video would take over the music world. VH1 would eventually name this song number 72 on the best hard rock song of all time list.
On her 1980 award-winning album, Crimes Of Passion, Pat Benatar gave us many top songs. One of these songs was the haunting and somewhat controversial Hell Is For Children. It is a dark and touching song about the fears and sadness of child abuse. She sings this song as you would expect, full of emotion, passion and glimpses of anger. She does it all with a very powerful and energetic band, creating what has become a fan favorite and concert highlight.
Hit Me With Your Best Shot is also off her Crimes Of Passion album. This song shows us her tougher side and her too tough to die approach to a failed relationship. She sings this song strongly and she means it. By the end of this song you realize that Pat Benatar could take on the world and come out on top.
Promises In The Dark comes off her 1981 studio release, Precious Time. This is my all time favorite Pat Benatar hit. It has some of Neil Giraldo’s best guitar licks throughout it. Pat Benatar is in her element here as she sings of lost love and relationships and how strong you have to be to deal with it.
Love Is A Battlefield is her highest chart topping hit so far and she even won a Grammy for it. It comes from her 1983 album, Live From Earth, and focuses more on the importance of adding video to music. It is a story about teenage runaways and hard life in the city. This song was a little experimental for Pat Benatar as it featured some electronic dance sounds and styles, yet it still held the main elements of the pop rock that she was famous for.
Pat Benatar has slowed down a bit when it comes to touring now, while mainly focusing on her family and has even become a best-selling author. She is a regular classic rock radio staple and her music and attitude will be around and admired forever.
Now for the answer to my trivia question. The name of the book that Pat Benatar wrote in 2010 is Between A Heart And A Rock Place.

Lyrics: Once upon a time a few mistakes ago I was in your sights you got me alone You found me you found me, you found me I guess you didn’t care, and I guess I liked that And when I fell hard you took a step back Without me without me, without me And he’s long gone when he’s next to me And I realize the blame is on me Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in So shame on me now Flew me to places I’ve never been Till you put me …
